What is an iLok?
The iLok Smart Key (generally known as an iLok) is the new standard for plug-in copy protection. It is a plastic USB key which plugs into any available USB port on your computer and holds all the plug-in authorizations for your system. It allows you to take your software authorizations wherever you go, so you can use your plug-ins on any computer the iLok is connected to – at home, at the studio, or at a friend’s house.
Do I need an iLok to use Abbey Road plug-ins?
Yes. They require an iLok with a valid license in order to be used.
Where can I purchase an iLok?
iLoks are supplied with Pro Tools HD and HD Accel systems and some Pro Tools LE systems. Otherwise, you can purchase one from http://www.ilok.com/, from Digidesign’s webstore or from most pro audio dealers.
What is ilok.com and how does it work?
ilok.com is the website which handles all online processing of iLok licenses. By creating an account on iLok.com you can register your iLok and manage the licenses stored on it. It is a free service and the quickest way to get authorizations to users remotely. With ilok.com you can see what licenses are on your iLok and transfer new demos or full authorizations to your iLok through the web.
What happens if I lose my iLok?
There are options on http://www.ilok.com/ for backing up authorizations as well as transferring between iLoks.
When starting Pro Tools, I get an message box saying "Initialization Error - Updated TPkd driver required and a reboot. Please reboot or reinstall software."
This message is displayed if an iLok software update is needed. To resolve this, install the latest PACE driver software which can be downloaded from www.paceap.com/dldrvr.html and restart your computer.
