TG 12413 Limiter

History

History

In December 1967, a specification was drafted to design and build a recording console to replace the tube consoles which had been used at Abbey Road Studios since the 1950’s. The result, the EMI TG12345 Mk1, was the world’s first transistorized multi-channel console. This 24 input, 8 channel console featured an integral compressor / limiter, the TG12413, on every input.

The TG12413 module was originally designed to replicate the functions of outboard units such as the Fairchild 660, which was loved by many EMI engineers, but it ended up with a very special sound of its own.

The TG12345 console was installed in Studio 2 towards the end of 1968 and was used on many legendary recordings, most notably The Beatles' Abbey Road sessions of 1969.
